Carving a wheel thrown bowl.

Register for Classes

Clay by Stacia offers hand building classes. Learn the techniques of creating and glazing your own handmade functional pottery! Use my contact page to request more information or register.

I offer adult classes (age 16+) for beginning to intermediate hand building. No clay experience is necessary. We will concentrate on slab and extruding skills, but may also incorporate pinch pots and coil building. If students also want to take turns learning wheel skills, we might do a rotation for one project per cycle, as I only have two wheels. Classes are held at my home studio in Kyle, TX.

Each class includes instruction, glazes, firing, and 25 pounds of clay. Additional clay can be purchased for $11 per 25 pound bag. Bringing your own beginning pottery tools set (such as this) is optional. They can be purchased online or locally at craft supply stores. Clipping your nails short and wearing clothes you don't mind getting dirty is recommended.

Price is $191 per student for each 6 week cycle. Each class is 2 hours, once a week. The first classes we build pottery, and the last class we glaze your creations. (Note: this cycle is shorter than usual, at 3 weeks. The cost is $101.) Some glazes stain clothing, so dress accordingly on the last week. I'll let you know when you can pick up your finished creations after I fire them, usually one to two weeks after the last class. Most pieces will be food, dishwasher, microwave, freezer, and oven safe.

My 2025 classes are Sunday evenings 6-8 pm, Monday mornings 10-noon, and Monday evenings 6-8 pm. The next cycle is:

  • Sunday pm: November 2, 9, and 16.

  • Monday am/pm: November 3, 10, 17.

My next class cycle will begin January 2026.

I have a maximum of five slots available each class. Most of my classes fill up with returning students, who get priority placement. If there is any room left, I open up the class to my waitlist. To request being placed on the waitlist, fill out the form on my contact page. Half the class price is due to secure your spot, and half at the first lesson. I accept cash, check, Facebook payments, Venmo, Apple Pay, PayPal, Zelle, or credit/debit. If you want to start part way through a session, and there are still openings, I can prorate the cost. Everyone goes at their own pace, so you won't be behind.

Thanks! Hope to see you there!
